Kambia Office

Since 2007 the AMNet office in Kambia is registered with MSWGCA and the Local Council, it also serves as focal office for the Northern Region and implements projects in Kambia and Port Loko district.

AMNet has been selected as the focal agency for child protection in Kambia district.

We are have undertaken pioneer work on female genital mutilation in the district: In 2008 the traditional authorities signed a memorandum of understanding that made Kambia the first district to ban child FGM. A similar MoU was signed in Port Loko in 2010.  AMNet has implemented the Generation Dialogue in twelve communities in two chiefdoms in Kambia as well as in twelve communities in four chiefdoms in Port Loko to facilitate the cultural change that is necessary for the end of child FGM. Due to our continuous work, the chiefs and Soweis of Kambia town and the larger villages now present the women who shall be initiated into the Bondo society to AMNet. As the main part of the initiation is FGM, an assessment of the women’s age by AMNet shall prove that only adult women are undergoing the cutting. This has led to a drastic reduction of child FGM in the district.
